Match Report - Pinley 2-3 Central Ajax Juniors (AET - Full time 1-1)
This was a great match to watch and a great match to win against the odds. Ajax hadn't
played since the 10th December and the odds were stacked against them as they went
into 15 minutes each way of extra time.

The game was tight on a small pitch with small goals and it was obvious that the
difference between the two teams would not be great. Having lost to Pinley in December
3-1, Ajax knew they had to challenge for every ball and take their chances. Most of the
first half was tight with only a couple of chances but it was Pinley who took the lead 5
minutes before half-time with a quick break and a decisive finish. Ajax responded well
and equalised before half time through Mark Turner.

The second half was just as tight, again with few chances and it seemed that both teams
had run out of energy. For a youth game the match was played in the right spirit and
well refereed. The game went into extra time and we seemed destined for penalties as
the mid-way score was still 1-1, but Pinley found some extra energy and scored with
about 12 minutes left. Ajax responded and won a free kick outside the left hand side of
the box, and a good ball in from James Clark was finished again by Mark Turner.

Suddenly there was more energy coming from Ajax and within 2 minutes they were in
front as Mark Turner completed his hat-trick and finished calmly from 6 yards out. Ajax
defended well for the last 8 minutes for a famous victory to go through to the last 8
where they will meet Kenilworth Wardens or Christ the King.

Sunday 18th March - Juniors 1 - 1 Christ the King - Cup
Lost 7-6 on penalties

This was a very tight game played in blustery conditions. Both defences were on top form but it
was Ajax who caused a few problems in the first half with some quick runs from the Ajax
forwards. Most of the first half was played in Christ the Kings half but for all the possession
there were not many shots on or off target.

The second half started the same but a long range shot was spilled by the King's goalkeeper
and Aaron O'Toole anticipated well and slotted home.

This woke Christ the King up and they started to move the ball around and threaten the Ajax goal
more often to justify their high placing in the red division. Ajax were playing deeper and the
inevitable happened when a shot from King was well saved by Nick Holt only for the rebound to
be driven home.

The rest of the game reverted back to being one of few chances and extra time was inevitable.
Extra time started in a hail storm and the game was nearly abandoned. The extra 30 minutes
was more of the same with both sides giving little away and looked very tired at the end.

Into penalties and both sides scored their first 5 penalties and eventually the tie was settled 7-6
in Christ the King's favour after 18 penalties.

The tie was extended because of a bad knee injury to a Christ the King player in the first half and
we extend our best wishes to him and wish him a speedy recovery from a suspected broken
kneecap

Sunday 11th March - Juniors 1 - 3 PSA Peugeot Citroen

Juniors played very tight in the first half against top of the table Peugeot and despite a number of
injuries had the best of the chances. Mark Turner looked sharp at the front and with a bit more
luck could easily have had 3 goals in the first half. Juniors were hoping the missed chances
would not come back to haunt them in the second half as they went in at half time 0-0.

The second half was difficult for Juniors as the wind was strong against them and Peugeot
finally scored a goal after persistent pressure. Things looked tough but a marvelous solo effort
from Mark Turner pulled the Juniors back into the game. Coming down the right he outpaced his
marker with the ball and cut inside the penalty area. With the ball on the inside he cleverly
scored on the inside of the near post with the outside of his foot, crashing it past the keeper.

Juniors were having to defend more and more and two more goals from Peugeot killed the
game. A brave effort and with a depleted side still looked capable of winning. Well done.

Sunday 18th February - Match Report

Christ the King Rovers 1- 3 Central Ajax Juniors

Juniors kept up their good form with a solid win over Christ the King in this league
game. The first 20 minutes were pretty even but with few chances at either end.

With some strange decisions from the official and with Christ the King playing high
up the pitch Ajax could not get into their passing game but eventually scored when
Aaron O'Toole got on the end of a set play from Jacob Dirienzo. This was no more
than Ajax deserved and they doubled their lead just before half-time when James
Griffin stooped low with a brave header from close range.

The second-half started brightly for Ajax and they grabbed a third about 10
minutes in when Aaron O'Toole got on the end of a cross from the right to strike
cleanly into the net.

The game went a little flat and Christ the King got a consolation goal with about 20
minutes to go but Ajax had a number of chances after this without converting the
them.

A good solid performance with some good saves at vital times from goalkeeper
Nick Holt
